OUT-OF-PLANE SPECTROMETER (OOPS)

LOCATION: MASSACHUSETTS, USA

YEAR: 1999

PRODUCT: 100-XOT & 100-XT

Hilman Roller 100-XOT and 100-XT were used to achieve precise positioning for the OOPS (Out-Of-Plane Spectrometer) module. The Hilman Rollers provided smooth vertical and horizontal motions, positioning (2)16-ton radiation detectors to better than a cubic millimeter and one m-rad of pointing angle. Motorized screw jackdrives move each module, while manual alignment mechanisms at the ends of the upper and lower support cantilevers align the roll, yaw, and pitch angles as well as the transverse position of the OOPS modules.

All rollers were built to exceptionally tight tolerances.

The OOPS gantry is about three stories tall, and weighs 120 tons with all its modules mounted.
